Terrazzo Restoration

Most Terrazzo floors are a combination of marble chips mixed into concrete cement. All concrete is not the same, and different cement has been used over the years throughout the world to make terrazzo floors. As the concrete made for terrazzo varies, it takes years of experience to recognize the differences when cleaning terrazzo floors. Most mistakes are made from not recognising the manufacturing process details of terrazzo floors and this can lead to increased costs in repairing terrazzo. We have the requisite knowledge to successfully undertake your Terrazzo floor restoration project. Often, a professional diamond grinding machine is all that's needed when polishing terrazzo floors. We have this expensive, specialised equipment at our disposal.

We also specialize in terrazzo stain removal, terrazzo patch repairs, terrazzo crack repair and grout cleaning. If you've found terrazzo under an old carpet, we could clean it up and polish it to a gleaming finish for you. Natural stone floor and concrete polishing machinery has greatly advanced and we Professional Terrazzo Polishing Contractors are more affordable now than ever before.

Terrazzo should not be confused with marble polishing they are similar but two different things. See the next section for information about marble restoration.

Marble Restoration

Unlike concrete-based terrazzo, marble is a relatively soft stone. It is made up of naturally occurring minerals. The Glasgow Stone Specialists can bring out that beautiful shine without damage to those delicate minerals. Quick and easy solutions will cost you after that chemical eats through certain minerals and shine fades, then you will be paying big bucks for a deep restoration.

When it comes to marble repair, there are many different types of marble, each with unique properties. For example, pure white marble is the result of the recrystallization of very pure limestone. Green coloration is often caused by high magnesium content in the limestone, added with silica impurities. As a natural product of geology, marble needs to be cared for properly. in order to preserve its beauty. As such, it is important to use a qualified marble polishing contractor to perform regular maintenance to prevent excessive wear and damage.

We recommend that you have such maintenance carried out at least twice every 10 years.

New marble should always be sealed with a penetrating sealer to help prevent cracks and chips from occurring. Older Marble floors should be repaired first, cleaned, and then finally sealed. A few applications of sealer may be needed on aged Marble. Marble sealant should be applied twice a year for the best possible protection in high traffic areas. The Glasgow Stone Specialists can help you with any marble floor maintenance issues and give you an expert analysis of steps needed to restore and maintain your marble.

Professional Marble Restoration equipment can remove scratches in the marble by Diamond Polishing (similar to Concrete Polishing). We have various kinds of polishing pads, made from metal and resin (like diamond polishing pads) specifically made for the job. With these specialised pads, marble is gently brought back to a smooth, shiny, yet slip-resistant finish. Knowing the right products and procedures for each stone, our polishing will bring back the original lustre of your floor.

We also do marble honing. Marble honing is a grinding method used to remove any scratches or lippage. Lippage removal is a process to correct uneven marble surfaces left from installation. Lippage occurs when marble tiles are higher in different areas of the floor. Lippage is removed by grinding down the higher areas. If the lippage is around the edges of the room, honing is often done with limestone products because they give marble a low lustre finish - so the honing works by taking away the shine found on the marble's edge, helping to keep the imperfect edge from standing out, because all eyes are drawn away from that dull edge to the shinier surface of the rest of the floor.

For deeper cracks, marble repair is necessary. Marble repair is carried out using tinted epoxy (a type of glue). The best match for your marble is selected from a vast range of different tints . Marble repair begins with filling in all holes or chips with this specially-tinted epoxy resin to matching the feel and look of the rest of the marble. Epoxy is used for repairing marble floors rather than grout because it looks flawless and is smooth to the touch. You should not readily notice a marble repair - epoxy marble repairs should be invisible. Using a sealing agent seals all marble and this greatly preserves the life of the marble, preventing future damage.

Some projects might just call for simple grout cleaning while others may require re-grouting. Re-grouting is where all of the old grout is removed and replaced with fresh grout in the colour of your choice.

Let the Glasgow Stone Specilists refinish your marble floor by grinding, stripping, repairing, and polishing it to bring back the beauty of your marble floor.
